International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Games executive director Christophe Dubi has claimed here that the Executive Board has "several options" on the timeframe for appointing a host for the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, following the postponement of next year's Session.

The IOC is aiming to appoint a host for the 2030 Games at the 2023 Session in Mumbai, but this has been pushed back to September or October due to governance issues at the Indian Olympic Association.

Under the initial plans announced in May, the Executive Board would have been required to take a decision at its final meeting of the year.

Future Host Commission for the Olympic Winter Games chair Octavian Morariu is set to provide a report which Dubi said would provide the Executive Board with a detailed update and possibilities for deciding on a host.

"He [Morariu] will present the lay of the land when it comes to the presentations that were made last week to the Future Host Commission, but also the new timeframe considering the Session has been proposed now for a few months," Dubi said.

"This gives several options to be discussed at the level of the Executive Board, so the EB has to hear first the report from Mr Morariu, but I can tell you that it will be a very precise report."

He said that "we cannot anticipate on the decision that will be made but that candidates had provided "a number of solid guarantees", including hosting previous editions of the Winter Games.

Sapporo and Salt Lake City are the frontrunners for the 2030 Games, following the Government of British Colombia's decision not to back a bid from Vancouver.

The Japanese city of Sapporo, host of the 1972 Winter Olympics, has long been viewed as the favourite for 2030, with Salt Lake City officials admitting the 2034 edition would be their preference.

However, a corruption scandal associated with Tokyo 2020 has sparked some doubt over its proposals.

Dubi said that "we have all, starting with the IOC, every interest that there is full clarification around these allegations", but welcomed proposed reforms by Sapporo Mayor Katsuhiro Akimoto and Japanese Olympic Committee President Yasuhiro Yamashita.
