A total of 87 work accidents have been logged since the start of construction sites linked to the Paris 2024 Games - 11 of them serious, none fatal, according to Minister of Labour figures.

The details emerged from a meeting addressing "the prevention of serious and fatal work accidents", Le Monde reports.

Gaëtan Rudant, director of the labour inspectorate in Ile-de-France, declared: "40% of these accidents involved people in temporary work.

He added that these "non-standard" sites - "a dozen sites, 40 project owners, 8,000 workers at a given time" - began to be established nearly two years ago and had increased considerably this year.

Since the start of 2022, he said, the labour inspectorate had carried out "500 hundred interventions, that is, one labour inspector mobilised every day" adding that this had resulted in "29 work stoppage decisions to remove around a hundred workers from an imminent and serious risk."

"Even on such a large site, the reality of the risks we deal with is quite familiar - fall from height, lifting and handling equipment, electrical risks…"

He has urged for strong collaboration in terms of prevention and social dialogue with construction professionals, adding: "We called the project owners three times to send messages with clear insistence."
