Qatar Sports Investments (QSI) have been linked with three of the English Premier League's biggest clubs - Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur - as the state-run company aim to increase the country's portfolio and soft power following the conclusion of last year's FIFA World Cup.

Tottenham are the only one of the three that QSI chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi has been linked to directly via a source, with Bloomberg News reporting he met with the club's chairman Daniel Levy in London last week.

QSI, a subsidiary of Qatar Investment Authority, the state-run sovereign-wealth fund in Qatar. also owns French giants Paris Saint-Germain and has a minority stake in Portuguese team Braga.

American company Fenway Sports Group (FSG) are reported to want to sell six-time European champions Liverpool.

FSG partner Sam Kennedy claimed there had been a "lot of interest" from organisations to buy the 2020 English champions, according to the Boston Globe.

The 20-time English champions Manchester United is up for sale too, with the Glazer family looking to end its controversial 17-year ownership.

Both Manchester United and Liverpool are up for whole sale, something QSI is not interested in according to The Times.

If Qatar invests in the Premier League, it will join Gulf rivals Saudi Arabia, who recently took over control of Newcastle United.

Qatar held a successful 2022 FIFA World Cup, which concluded last month with Argentina lifting the trophy after being France in the final, but the impact of the tournament was not all positive, with criticism coming throughout regarding human rights.
