A number of transport projects for this year’s re-arranged Asian Games have been completed in Hangzhou, which Chinese organisers claim will help the event be a success.

A an extension between Raocheng and Zhonghuan, part of the Hangzhou Shidai Avenue of Zhejiang project, has been successfully tested and opened to traffic.

Also, the Yunxi ground-level road of Yuhang District has been completed and is now open both ways.

The south extension between Raocheng and Zhonghuan means that the elevated road is now 11.2 kilometres long and is now an important interconnection, making travel in South Hangzhou more efficient.

The Yunxi development is now acting as transport hub of strategic roads, including the Hangzhou to Huizhou Expressway and Hangzhou to Changxing Expressway.

It is designed to relieve the traffic pressure on ground-level roads during the early peak hours and promotes the urban-rural economic and social integration in Yuhang District, officials claim.

Since hosting the G20 Summit in 2016, Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, has become an increasingly popular travel destination.

In order to keep up with the growing number of travellers, the city’s worked hard to establish a solid transportation system.

Hangzhou has developed an extensive city bus system, consisting of regular lines, night lines, peak-hour lines, holiday lines, sightseeing lines, and bus rapid transport lines.

But. every day, about 460,000 motor vehicles, including 360,000 private cars, still run in an endless stream along the streets of Hangzhou.

About 50,000 vehicles are added to urban traffic flows each year, it is estimated.

According to global data, Hangzhou is among the 10 most congested cities in China.
