The 2023 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Extraordinary General Assembly is set to take place on June 30 in Fátima.

The Portuguese city was announced as host by IBSA's Executive Board President Sandro di Girolamo.

The General Assembly will see the elections of a new President, vice-president, secretary general, treasurer, and five members-at-large.

The election of the continental chairs will also be ratified.

Greece's Ioanna Karyofylli, Italian Alena Kurlovich, Egyptian Ahmed Owin, Eigo Matsuzaki of Japan, and Turkey's Hasan Sayyidan currently serve as members-at-large but are all due to be replaced by new members.

Di Girolamo was elected at the 2021 Extraordinary General Assembly in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

Azerbaijan's Ilgar Rahimov was also elected as vice-president at the meeting.

The two have not yet stated whether they will be running for re-election.

IBSA claims that "the document of the convening was already sent in due time to all IBSA members", giving potential candidates enough time to put together campaigns for the roles.

Di Girolamo, also President of the Italian Paralympic Sports Federation for the Visually Impaired and Blind, overcame incumbent Jannie Hammershoi of Denmark in the previous election.
