Alexandria Loutitt became the first Canadian woman to win an International Ski and Snowboard Federation Ski Jumping World Cup with a normal hill victory in Japanese resort Zaō.

The 19-year-old Loutitt, an Olympic bronze medallist in the mixed team at Beijing 2022, recorded a superb first jump of 98.5 metres on the Yamagata hill, and followed it up with a 95.0m effort to finish with 240.3 points.

The overall World Cup leader Eva Pinkelnig of Austria fared well again, placing second with 231.8 from jumps of 115.6m and 116.2m.

Chiara Kreuzer doubled the Austrian presence on the podium with a tremendous second jump.

She ranked seventh with her 92.5m, and followed it with the same length jump on the second, the best performance of the round.

That helped her to finish with 228.6 points, giving her a first podium finish since March 2020.

Selina Freitag of Germany ranked fourth with 224.4 points from her jumps of 95.0m and 97.0m.

Pinkelnig maintains a healthy lead in the race for the crystal globe with 916 points for the season, with Germany's Olympic silver medallist Katharina Althaus losing ground after a joint-sixth-place finish in Zaō.

Althaus is second on 717, with Norway's Anna Odine Strøm third with 587 after also placing joint-sixth.

Zaō is set to stage a super team World Cup tomorrow, followed by another individual competition on the normal hill on Sunday (January 15).
