The Taekwondo Humanitarian Foundation (THF) has spoken of its gratitude after receiving a series of substantial donations during 2022, as it continues its mission to empower refugees through the sport.

The THF highlighted four donations, which it said were important to the ongoing operation of the THF, which was officially established in April 2016 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Hong Kong Taekwondo Association President Louis Ching made a personal donation of $30,000 (£24,220/€27,700), while Minsoo Kang, a Professor at Dong-Eui University in Busan, South Korea, donated $25,000 (£20,180/€23,000).

World Taekwondo treasurer and President of the Thailand Taekwondo Association Pimol Srivikorn donated $20,000 (£16,140/€18,460), while Lotte Logistics, a logistics and shipping company based in Seoul donated $15,000 (£12,100/€13,850).

The THF is currently running six programmes worldwide in Jordan, Turkey, Rwanda, Eswatini, France and Switzerland.

The THF was launched by World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue, with the goal of sending teams of taekwondo coaches to teach in refugee camps, helping refugees gain superior physical fitness, upgraded mental attitudes, self-defence, self-belief and self-respect.

The THF says funding helps with the travel and living expenses of coaching teams, the travel and living expenses of visiting champions on motivational visits and uniforms, mats, protective gear and kicking pads for refugee trainees.

More than 2,000 refugees are trained each week by the THF, with eight refugees or displaced persons hired by the organisation in coaching and project coordination roles.
