The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has signed an agreement to enable the country’s athletes to use facilities in Metz, France, in the build-up to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

POC President Abraham Tolentino signed a Memorandum of Understanding with La Moselle President Patrick Weiten, saying he hoped the move would ensure that athletes from the Philippines "are well-prepared and acclimatised", as reported by ABS News.

The Memorandum of Understanding covers the use of sports facilities in the city of Metz as well as accommodation and food for the Filipino athletes who qualify for the Games.

Qualified athletes from the country are set to be able to train in the area for two months before the Paris 2024 Olympics begins on July 26.

The Philippines sent a team of 19 athletes to Tokyo 2020, winning four medals, including gold for weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the women’s 55 kilograms category.

Tolentino says the POC is hopeful it can help the Philippines to send a larger team to Paris 2024.

The POC signed a deal in November 2022 to secure a training camp in the commune of Deuil-La-Barre, a town located eight and a half miles outside of Paris.
