Competition is due to be held at the City Hall Square, and Copenhagen had additionally been awarded one of the 2024 FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup qualifiers.

It is set to mark the first time Denmark has held a major European basketball event.

Between 7,000 and 8,400 paying spectators are expected for the 2025 Europe Cup and up to 90,000 "spontaneous spectators".

The Danish Basketball Federation is set to organise the event in collaboration with Sport Event Denmark, City of Copenhagen and Wonderful Copenhagen.

FIBA Europe executive director Kamil Novak believes that Copenhagen will serve as a suitable host for the event in two years' time.

"We are really happy and proud of bringing the 3x3 Europe Cup to Denmark for the first time," he said.

"Copenhagen and Denmark are perfect matches to 3x3 as one of the missions of this discipline is to bring basketball to the people and show that everyone can be successful in 3x3."

Danish Basketball Federation chair Mads Young Christensen expressed his pride at securing hosting rights for the event.

"We are proud to host the 3x3 Europe Cup 2025 and the qualifier on Danish soil in collaboration with the city of Copenhagen and Sport Event Denmark," Christensen said.

"I am thrilled that for the first time in Danish basketball history we will host a major basketball event.

"We get the opportunity to showcase our fantastic sport to the Danes and show our international basketball family why Denmark is unique as a host nation for major sporting events."

The City of Copenhagen's Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen said that hosting the 3x3 Europe Cup in 2025 "offers a unique opportunity for us to host a big international sport tournament in urban surroundings and combine it with street sport activities that everyone can participate in".

Sport Event Denmark's director Lars Lundov argued that Copenhagen would be a "perfect match" for the 2025 Europe Cup, and added "a vast programme of side activities" during the tournaments are planned.

The first edition of the FIBA 3x3 Europe Cup was held in Romania's capital Bucharest in 2014, and the Austrian city of Graz held last year's event.

Serbia won their fourth consecutive men's title in Graz, and France reclaimed the women's crown.

The 3x3 format of basketball made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, and remains on the programme for Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028.
