Japan had a golden day at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships in Colorado Springs as skaters from the country won the pairs and men's event.

Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara made history by winning the first pair skating title for their country at an International Skating Union (ISU) event.

In the men's event, Kao Miura, the youngest skater in the field, also took his first ISU championship title.

Miura and Kihara scored 208.24 points overall, performing to "Atlas: Two" and "Sweet Tenderness".

They pulled off a triple twist, two level-four lifts and throw triple loop as they won the title.

"Three years ago when we were at Four Continents for the first time we were saying one day we would like to sit here in the centre and three years later we are here," Miura noted.

Last year's silver medallists Emily Chan and Spencer Akira Howe of the United States settled for the same medal again while Canadians Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps took bronze.

Chan and Howe got 201.11 pints after their performance to "Ghost".

Skating to "Cleopatra", Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps achieved a total score of 193.84 points to take the bronze medal.

In the men's event, teenager Miura who was leading after the short programme, scored 281.53 points overall performing to "The Beauty and the Beast", to take the gold medal.

"Today was amazing," Miura said.

"Just before I went on the ice, Keegan put out an amazing program.

"The atmosphere was different and he gave me a lot of energy, so I was able to really skate well.

"I am happy about all components of my program.

"I was able to make sure I had the right speed at the right time and to take it slowly in some parts."

Canadian Keegan Messing scored 275.57 points to take the silver medal while another Japanese in Shun Sato of completed the podium spots after a performance that earned him 259.14 points.
