International World Games Association (IWGA) officials have predicted that the 2025 World Games in Chengdu will be "outstanding Games on the highest level", after a visit to the city.

"Our visit to Chengdu has been very useful, both when it comes to seeing and inspecting possible venues and to discussing the next milestones and actions on the Road to Chengdu and The World Games 2025," World Games officials said.

Chengdu organisers confirmed that work on accommodation blocks at the Chengdu Sports University is scheduled for completion by June this year.

A total of 4,000 rooms are expected to be available in seven dormitories on the site to serve as the Games village.

These are to be equipped with activity rooms, laundry facilities and barbers.

The village is two kilometres from Sancha Lake, which is set to be a water sports hub for the Games and only one kilometre from the Tianfu competitive training centre.

Delegates were also shown the projected Opening Ceremony venue, a designated class A stadium with a capacity of 40,000.

The nearby cluster also includes an aquatics centre capable of holding 3,000 and an 18,000 capacity multi sports gymnasium which have both been designated as Games venues.

A detailed announcement on the sports programme for the 2025 Games is set to be made in May 2023.

Chengdu was chosen as host city for the Games in 2019 at a meeting in Australia's Gold Coast.

It is the third Asian city to host the World Games after Akita in Japan in 2001 and Kaosiung, Chinese Taipei in 2009.
