The fourth-ranked men's basketball team in the world, beaten 95-75 by Spain in the final in Beijing four years ago, will miss the competition for the first time since they were held in Colombia in 1982.

Argentina, winners of the first tournament in 1950 and also the runners-up in 2002, were eliminated with a home loss to the Dominican Republic in their final game of the Americas qualifying event.

Argentina boasted the likes of former National Basketball Association player Facundo Campazzo and 40-year-old Carlos Delfino, part of the Olympic gold medal-winning side at Athens 2004.

They were only able to register eight wins and four losses, meaning they narrowly missed out by points difference to Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Brazil, who all had the same record.

Cape Verde, Georgia, Latvia, and South Sudan qualified for the World Cup for the first time in their history as the 32-team line-up for the tournament has been confirmed following the conclusion of qualifiers.

In addition to the quartet, Angola, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Georgia, Iran, Jordan, Mexico, Montenegro, Puerto Rico, Serbia, the United States, and Venezuela booked their place in the tournament scheduled for August 25 to September 10.

The next step for the qualified teams is set to come on April 29 when they discover what groups they will play in.

The draw is due to take place in Manila's Araneta Coliseum which is also one of the competition venues.

Numi Omot starred for South Sudan in their crucial match against Senegal to win 83-75.

The result meant that they were the second African team, after the Ivory Coast, to qualify.

Omot scored 50 per cent of his attempts from the floor on the way to a team-high 26 points while also adding eight rebounds and four assists.
