Spain's Lucas Eguibar and Britain's Charlotte Bankes won their respective snowboard cross events at the International Ski Federation Snowboard World Cup in Sierra Nevada.

Eguibar dominated the big final in front of his home fans as he finished first in all three rounds as Jakob Dusek, winner of the gold medal at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships in Bakuriani last week did not make any impression on the competition. 

Omar Visitin of Italy secured second place after he ended the rounds as second, third and second.

In third was Visitin's compatriot Lorenzo Sommariva, who had rounds of fourth, second and third.

In the overall World Cup, Martin Nörl of Germany still leads with with 274 points, despite a disappointing performance today as he failed to progress beyond the rounds.

Visitin is trailing him in second with 250 points.

Eguibar, a gold medallist at the 2021 World Championships in Idre, is in fourth with 232 points, trailing the Frenchman Loan Bozzolo on 245.

On the women's side, Bankes, fresh from her gold medal in the mixed snowboard team cross in Bakuriani, came out on top. 

The 27-year-old, who represented France in the 2014 and 2018 Winter Olympic Games. achieved top place after finishing third in the first two rounds, with her first place finish in the third round being enough.

Bankes' former French team-mate Chloe Trespeuch was the runner-up, finishing all rounds in second in the big final.

Lindsey Jacobellis of the United States was third, finishing first in the first round, but fourth and third in the other two.

Czech Republic's newly crowned world champion Eva Adamczyková finished only fourth, despite winning the second round.

In the overall standings, Trespeuch is holding onto first with 380 points, but Bankes is only two points behind as she seeks to lift the title for the second consecutive season.

The race for the Crystal Globe is a two-horse race with Australia's Josie Baff back in third on 264 points.

There is set to be be another chance for points tomorrow as the World Cup continues in Sierra Nevada.
