India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Slovakia's Jozef Bosansky ended their long quests for individual compound gold medals at the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey.

Vennam, 26, who had matched the world record of 713 in qualifying and had taken mixed team gold with Ojas Pravin Deotale earlier in the week, triumphed at the 20th time of asking and after 11 years of trying.

Having beaten world number one Ella Gibson in the semi-final, Vennam shot a near-perfect score to beat Colombia's Sara Lopez in the gold medal match.

"I’m actually short of words," Vennam said.

"This is the first tournament of the season and we have World Cup stages lined up, World Championships, Asian Games and my first appearance in World Cup Finals."

Similarly, it has taken Bosansky 15 attempts to get onto the World Cup podium and his first-ever medal is a golden one.

The Slovak achieved his dream aged 46 and it came thanks to a thrilling 149-148 victory over American teenager Sawyer Sullivan.

Bosansky led from wire to wire and only a nine in the third end separated him from a perfect score.

"I’m excited, I feel like a child when they’re given a surprise present," Bosansky said.
