A sport shooting challenge featuring in popular online video game Fortnite has joined the list of sports for the inaugural Olympic Esports Week in Singapore.

The International Olympic Committee has announced that sport shooting is the latest sport to be added to the programme for the event, scheduled to be held at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 23 to 25.

The International Shooting Sport Federation’s challenge is set to see 12 players from the 2023 Fortnite Champion Series invited to compete on the global stage.

A specially-designed Fortnite Creative Island, made to reflect sport shooting competition, will put the target-aiming accuracy of sharp shooters to the test and see them navigate the in-game environment as they battle it out to become an Olympic Esports Series winner.

The inaugural event is due to feature other games including archery, baseball, chess, cycling, dance, motor sport, sailing, taekwondo and tennis, with live finals to be held for the first time.

Qualification rounds in baseball, chess, motorsport and sailing are already under way, with competitors aiming to reach the finals in Singapore and compete in front of fans for the prestigious titles.

Tickets have gone on sale providing access to the live finals and what organisers describe as a "festival of virtual sports and gaming", including exhibition matches and a free-to-play zone.

Archery, cycling, dancing and sailing finals are set to be staged on June 23, followed by baseball, taekwondo, sport shooting, tennis on June 24 and motorsport and chess on June 25.
