The 29-year-old, who won both the individual and team gold medals at last year's World Championships in Cairo, defeated Hong Kong's Vivian Kong in the final at the Zayed Sports Complex in the United Arab Emirates.

Song, who won a team silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, edged Kong 14-13 after a sudden death period.

It was a repeat of last year's World Championship semi-final which Song won to condemn Kong, the winner of the FIE Grand Prix in Cali earlier this month, to bronze.

In the semi-finals in Fujairah, Song defeated Gaia Traditi of Italy 15-7.

Kong saw off Anna Kun of Hungary 15-11, with both defeated semi-finalists claiming bronze.

Defending Olympic champion Sun Yiwen of China was a victim of Song in the quarter-finals, losing 15-12.

In the team event, France won gold as they beat South Korea 45-29 in the final.

Song had to settle for silver this time as Marie-Florence Candassamy, Alexandra Louis Marie, Auriane Mallo and Coraline Vitalis claimed victory for the French.

Choi Injeong, Kang Young Mi and Lee Hyein also suited up for the Koreans.

Poland defeated Italy 38-29 for bronze.

The World Cup was the last in women's épée before the World Championships in Milan in July.
