The Bulgarian city staged the first Challenge Cup event of the year and crowned medallists in six men's and four women's events across individual apparatus disciplines.

Armenian Davtyan, who became the European vault champion at Antalya 2023 and won bronze in the category at Tokyo 2020, was in fine form at the Palace of Culture and Sports.

He claimed gold in his favoured vault event while also reaching the pommel horse and rings podiums with bronze medals.

The 30-year-old's compatriot Artur Avetisyan also took gold in Varna, this time in the rings as he pipped Turkey's Mehmet Ayberk to the title.

Home favourite Eddie Penev got the crowd on their feet with his victorious performance in the floor exercise, while Albanian Matvei Petrov triumphed in the pommel horse, Uzbek Rasuljon Abdurakhimov won parallel bars gold, and the horizontal bar glory went to Norwegian Sofus Heggemsnes.

In the women's events, three-time European champion Zsófia Kovács was the star of the show. 

She held off firm competition from runner-up Djenna Laroui of France and third-placed Czech Barbora Mokošová to prevail in the uneven bars.

Her fellow Hungarian Bettina Lili Czifra added another gold for the country with a stunning performance in the balance beam.

Frenchwoman Silane Mielle and Tijana Korent of Croatia then capped off the competition with triumphs in the floor exercise and vault, respectively.

The next World Challenge Cup event is set to take place in Tel Aviv from June 1 to 4.
