Asian Games organisers have invited each participating team to nominate a Torchbearer to help carry the Flame as part of its journey to Hangzhou on September 20, three days before the 2022 Asian Games are scheduled to open.

Each is expected to carry the Torch for a distance of 50 metres.

"The nominated candidate must already have arrived in Hangzhou before September 20 and have a flexible schedule to take part in the relay," Hangzhou 2022 organisers said.

The National Olympic Committees will have until June 12 to nominate a participant.

The final list will be subject to the approval of the Organising Committee and the Olympic Council of Asia.

Each participant is to receive a uniform and the National Olympic Committee is supposed to arrange lodging.

The Torch Relay has been an integral part of the Asian Games since they were inaugurated in New Delhi back in 1951.

Indonesian Badminton star Susi Susanti was the final Torchbearer who lit a crater in the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta in 2018.

Last year, Hangzhou 2022 unveiled a "Digital Torchbearer" programme to mark the 300-day countdown to the Games.

A special pass enabled participants to create a digital images wearing the Torchbearer uniform.

Organisers also launched a campaign entitled "Running Towards 2022, to Strive for Becoming the Asian Games Torchbearer", a step accumulator from daily walking and running, which gave the public a chance join the Torch Relay.

The Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games were postponed from last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They are scheduled to open on September 23 and run until October 8.
