Taekwondo Canada has announced that the 2024 Canada Open was the most successful international event ever hosted by the organisation. More than 800 athletes from 41 countries competed in the three-day event, which took place from 8 to 10 February in Vancouver, British Columbia, MASTKD reports.

Brazilian taekwondo kyorugi athletes were the best at the Canada Open a week ago, and they did the same at the US Open, which took place from 16-18 February.

In the absence of the Olympic athletes, who are in Turkey preparing for the Games, the next generation pushed the more experienced athletes to the limit at the French Senior Taekwondo Championships this weekend at the FDI Stadium in Montpellier.

Taekwondo is one of the most important sports in Jordan. In 2016, taekwondo fighter Ahmad Abughaush won Jordan's first official Olympic medal by topping the podium in the -68kg category, before Saleh El Sharabaty (-80kg) added a second medal five years later in Tokyo with a silver.

The National Parataekwondo Team, which will represent Spain at the Continental Pre-Olympic Championships in Sofia (Bulgaria) on the 8th of March, will be training at the CTD R. Murcia from the 12th to the 21st of February.

The recent Poomsae Officiating Seminar in the Pan American region was a resounding success, with the majority of participants being approved to officiate at WT sanctioned events.

There were some big names in Canada over the weekend at the 2024 Canada Open. 2022 World Champions Omar Gergely Salim (Hungary) and Carlos Sansores (Mexico) were two of the two biggest names, and they did not disappoint.

Dakar, the capital of Senegal, hosted the African Qualifier for Paris 2024 Taekwondo on 10th and 11th February. 16 athletes from eight weight categories achieved the coveted qualification for the Olympic Games.

The president of the Pan American Taekwondo Union, Juan Manuel López, successfully chaired a meeting with representatives from 35 countries in the region to discuss technical and administrative aspects of the upcoming Olympic qualifying event to be held in the Dominican Republic in April. The meeting highlighted the unity and commitment of the Pan American Taekwondo family. Key issues were discussed to ensure a spectacular event in the Caribbean nation.  

The first qualifying tournament of the year has started in Dakar, Senegal. On 9 February, the Para-Taekwondo qualifying tournament took place.

As Querétaro gears up to welcome the best young taekwondo talents, the Arteaga Gymnasium will be the epicentre of the 2024 Pan American Cadet and Junior Taekwondo Championships from 18-21 July.

A contingent of 65 Australian taekwondo practitioners will head to North America this week to compete in the Canada Open in Vancouver from 8-10 February before travelling to Reno for the US Open Championship from 16-18 February.

A 2024 Joint Training Camp organized by World Taekwondo and operated in cooperation with the IOC Olympic Solidarity Program took place in Honiara, the Solomon Islands, from 22 January to 3 February.

The Pan American Taekwondo Union (PATU) and Kukkiwon, the global headquarters of taekwondo based in South Korea, have signed a major cooperation agreement to establish a working office at the CU.
