The sixth World Pole Sports Championships got under way today in The Netherlands ©IPSF

The sixth World Pole Sports Championships started today with a tie for first place in the artistic pole senior women competition.

Zhang Yu Meng of China and her American rival Polina Volchek both impressed the judges in equal measure with their routines at the Maaspoort Sport in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

They were each given a score of 81.500 points to share the podium’s top place, with Hanka Venselaar of The Netherlands finishing third just 0.250 behind.

Volchek did manage to get another gold medal as she won the doubles section of the competition with her partner Dimitry Politov.

They dominated the contest with a score of 90.750 points, a full 16.750 ahead of Italian pairing Diego Novello and Stefania Cremaschi.

The bronze medal was won by Spanish duo Elisenda Gomez Font and Xavier Estragues Casanovas.

There was a definitive winner in the men’s single competition as Spain’s Denis Terrones Salinas took the gold medal with a score of 81.000 points.

Mexico’s Moises Ahumada Reyes came second a further 8.750 points behind Salinas while Norwegian performer Jorge Lera claimed the bronze medal.

The competition organised by the International Pole Sport Federation in the Dutch city is due to continue until Sunday (July 2).
