Rochette became the first competitor to take the Champsionship jersey off four-time winner Katie Compton of the United States. who was not competing, winning in 42min 29sec at Little Lake Park.

America's Ellen Noble was 14 seconds behind Rochette in second, finishing with a time of 42:43, while compatriot Kaitlin Keough came third in 43:09.

"It's very special to win this, I think it is my biggest win so far," Rochette said. 

"The best thing today was to have all the Canadian fans, they were on fire! 

"To win the title in front of a home crowd is pretty cool."

The men's competition came down to a photo finish between Curtis White of the US and Micheal Van den Ham of Canada after both finished in 1 hour 1min 33sec. 

White was given the jersey after crossing the line half-a-bike ahead, with Van den Ham having to settle for second place.

American Kerry Werner coming third in 1:01.49.

"I got a good gap and Mike van den Ham was the only guy that could come with me," Curtis told Cycling News.

"On the last lap he was kind of dictating the pace, but I was pretty confident in my sprint."

"It was a close one, but I was able to edge him out in the end."
