October 12 - Ten-year-old Yeon-wook Kang was flying high today after his colourful design for a special Pyeongchang 2018 aircraft was revealed to the world.

Third grader Yeon-wook’s design features a ski jumper and figure skater in action while holding the Korean flag.

The youngster’s livery was chosen as the winner of Korean Air’s annual children’s aircraft design contest ahead of 300 rivals.

The new design, which will be featured on one of Korean Air’s Boeing 777-200 aircraft, and will now be used for both domestic and international routes, makes its maiden voyage on the domestic flight between Seoul and Jeju.

Yang Ho Cho, chairman and chief executive of the Pyeongchang 2018 Bid Committee, said: "This artistic competition is one of many activities taking place around Korea that will engage young people with our bid.

"Pyeongchang 2018 is committed to encouraging young people to participate in sport, in particular winter sports.

"This new aircraft design will help to raise awareness of our bid to host the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and promote the Olympic spirit around the world."
