October 13 - More than 10,000 people are now beavering away on London 2012's Olympic Park and Village.

Confirming that the "big build" is on track, Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chairman John Armitt said: "In a tough time for the construction industry we are providing jobs for over 10,000 workers and meeting our commitments to safety, training and employing local people and apprentices.

"We are not complacent and remain focused on the finish line."

Latest employment and skills figures published by the ODA show that 10,333 people are currently working on the project.

More than 3,000 training places have been delivered through the National Skills Academy for Construction including the Plant Training Centre and Thames House Training centre in Newham, set up to provide training and work opportunities on the Olympic Park and other construction sites.

The ODA's 'Job, Skills, Futures' targets include delivering an Olympic Park construction workforce made up of at least 15 per cent of residents of the five Host Boroughs.

Currently 330 apprentices have been recruited on to the project.
