Tokyo has been named as the best city in the Asia-Pacific region for combined business and leisure as it prepares to host the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Japanese capital ranks first in a study produced by The Economist Intelligence Unit, in front of Singapore and Sydney.

It has been rated as as a "five star" destination for its "blesiure" - the combination of business and leisure.

Cities were scored out of five possible points with the rankings decided following a survey of 1,500 business travellers from around the world.

They were asked about factors including transport and the availability of goods and services.

The study also assessed specific aspects of the bleisure experience, such as what makes for a successful business trip and what travellers look for in their leisure activities.

Naka Kondo, the editor of the report, said: "Cities in Asia-Pacific should take note.

"Facilitating leisure experiences for corporate travellers can be the key to differentiating in a crowded business travel market.

"Some of the top cities in our bleisure barometer are already world leaders in this regard, while others can learn from the best in improving access to the intersection of business and leisure travel in the region."

Beijing, the host of the 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, came seventh in the rankings to receive a four star rating.
