Russian archer Elena Osipova won the silver medal in the women's individual event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, after a shoot-off defeat to South Korea's An San.

Following a tie between the pair in the final, An - who broke the Olympic record in the ranking round - was closest to the centre with her single arrow.

Osipova ends her Tokyo 2020 campaign with two silver medals, adding an individual piece of silverware to the team medal she previously won with Svetlana Gomboeva and Ksenia Perova at the Games.

Earlier in 2021, Osipova was part of the team that won women's team recurve and mixed team recurve gold at the European Archery Championships.

At 28-years-old, she is also a team silver medallist from the 2019 Military World Games and a team bronze medallist from the 2017 Summer Universiade, but her achievements at Tokyo 2020 are by far her greatest successes to date.

She is ranked fourth in the world in women's recurve and made her international debut in 2013.

Before taking up the sport in 2010, Osipova played tennis for five years and took up archery after a senior national team coach came to her school, announcing they were setting up a group in the city of Taganrog where she was living.
