The International Ski Federation (FIS) SnowKidz programme, which encourages children to try snow sports, encountered "positive" results for the 2020-2021 season in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.

That is the verdict of its annual report on.

Two new countries participated in the programme - the United Arab Emirates and Mexico - and SnowKidz at this stage boasts nine partners.

Atomic Skis, Dinoski, the International Federation of Ski Patrollers, INTERSANDS, the International Ski Instructors Association, MND Group, Right to Play, Special Olympics and World Para Snow Sports are those partners.

FIS SnowKidz is the first phase of the Bring Children to the Snow campaign and enables event organisers worldwide to share and showcase events to encourage children to participate globally.

The Bring Children to the Snow campaign was launched in 2007 as an international drive to promote snow activities for young people, primarily targeting those between the ages of four and 14, as well as their parents.

Last season, there was a growth of 12.7 per cent on the SnowKidz social media channels, per the report.

Eighteen countries participated last season and there were 38 new SnowKidz organisers over the past 12 months.

An encouraging 91 per cent of people who attended SnowKidz events said they would return the following year.

There were 128 events and actions over the last 12 months, the report outlines, and there have been in excess of 4.9 million participants involved in the programme since its inception in 2009.
