World champions will be crowned in aquathlon and cross triathlon at El Anillo in Extremadura this weekend.

Aquathlon, which consists of a swim between two running segments, will be the first discipline contested at the Spanish venue.

Aquathlon has been named on the sport programme for the 2023 Association of National Olympic Committees World Beach Games, and qualification points will be on offer at Extremadura.

Romania’s Antoanela Manac - third in the duathlon at the 2019 World Beach Games - has been identified as one to watch in the women's race.

Spain's David Castro, a full World Triathlon Cup winner in 2016, is one of the star attractions in the men's race.

For the off-road Cross Triathlon World Championships, which follow tomorrow, Eleonora Peroncini returns to defend the women's crown.

France's Margot Garabedian - due to compete in both World Championships in Extremadura - and Mexico’s Michelle Flipo figure to be among Peroncini's challengers.

Frenchman Arthur Forissier will be defending the men's crown.
