World champion figure skater Anna Shcherbakova won gold for the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in the women's singles competition at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Shcherbakova delivered a superb performance in the free skating element, landing both of her quad flips to score 175.75 in the second half of the event.

The 17-year-old had notched 80.20 two days earlier in the short programme, finishing with 255.95.

She led an ROC one-two, with Alexandra Trusova leading the scoring in the free skating after pulling off five quad jumps in her routine for a 177.13.

That moved her into the silver-medal position with a 251.73 effort.

In 2021, Shcherbakova triumphed in the women's singles on her debut at the World Championships in Stockholm with 233.17 points.

Shcherbakova also boasts a pair of European Championship silver medals among her honours.

In Tallinn in 2022, Shcherbakova finished second to compatriot Kamila Valieva at the European Championships.

Shcherbakova took silver at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Turin in the 2019-2020 season, and contributed to a Russian victory at the World Team Trophy in Osaka in 2021, topping the scoring in the women's singles event.

Shcherbakova has to date claimed four International Skating Union Grand Prix victories.

She first took up the sport in Russia's capital Moscow in 2007, following in the footsteps of her older sister Inna.

Shcherbakova then joined the national figure skating team in 2018.
