Scotland’s Mike Stepney and Julie Forrest earned singles titles as the World Bowls Indoor Championships came to an end in Bristol.

The final day of competition began with the semi-final stage, with Scotland’s Stepney and Stewart Anderson winning their respective matches.

Stepney overcame South Africa’s Jason Evans 9-3, 11-1 to reach the final, while Stewart secured a 7-11, 5-4, 1-0 win over Andy Walters of England.

The all-Scottish final saw Stepney triumph 10-5, 5-12, 1-0 over Anderson.

"That’s three times lucky for me," said Stepney.

"I reached the final of the old World Indoor Bowls Council singles twice, but lost on both occasions, so it’s great to have that under my belt.

"I will certainly remember that winning shot as long as I live."

The women’s singles final saw Forrest face Hong Kong’s Gloria Ha, a 20-year-old student.

Forrest, who won the former World Indoor Bowls Council event on four occasions, emerged as a 9-4, 10-2 winner to claim the title.

Forrest had advanced to the women’s singles final following a 9-4,8-7 win over Wales’ Amy Williams.

Ha had beaten Ireland’s Sandra Bailie 10-3, 10-5 in the second semi-final.

The event at Bristol Indoor Bowling Club was the inaugural World Bowls Indoor Championships.
