Brazil and hosts Paraguay are both on course to contest a third consecutive Copa América de Beach Soccer final after progressing through the group stage with perfect records in Luque.

They are joined in the semi-finals by Venezuela and Chile.

The tournament has previously been held in 2016 and 2018, with Brazil beating Paraguay in both finals staged so far.

Paraguay began their home Copa América de Beach Soccer with a 2-1 win against Chile in Group A at the Los Pynandi World Cup Stadium.

They followed it up with a 7-2 thrashing of Colombia, a 5-4 triumph over Argentina and a 5-3 victory against Ecuador.

Chile went through in second, despite losing to Paraguay in their first match and 5-2 to Argentina in their last match.

A 6-5 win against Ecuador and 6-2 victory against Colombia was enough to send Chile through to the semi-finals for the first time.

Argentina missed out after losing twice on penalties - to Colombia after a 2-2 draw, and to Ecuador having been tied at 4-4.

In Group B, Brazil underlined their status as tournament favourites.

They started with a 5-3 win against Peru, then saw off Venezuela 5-2, clinched the biggest victory of the group stage 9-1 against Bolivia, and overcame Uruguay 6-4.

Venezuela progressed in second, defeating Bolivia 4-2, Peru 3-2 and Uruguay 4-3.

Brazil are due to face Chile on Saturday (May 28) in the semi-finals, with Paraguay taking on Venezuela.

Argentina are set to place Peru in the playoff for fifth, with Colombia facing Uruguay to decide seventh and Ecuador playing Bolivia for ninth.

Tomorrow is a designated rest day.
