The new hosts were decided at the ITTF Board of Directors meeting which took place during the Summit in the Jordanian capital of Amman.

Slovenia has been a key host in the recent World Table Tennis (WTT) Youth Series, staging three events in Otocec and Nova Gorica this year.

"We are very glad that we are able to organise the World Youth Championships in 2023 in Slovenia," said Tomaz Kralj, tournament director for the 2023 ITTF World Youth Championships.

"This is another step in developing table tennis from a tournament perspective.

"We are really looking forward to hosting a great event and we hope that everybody will enjoy it.

"We are also looking forward to future cooperation with ITTF and WTT."

Helsingborg has also staged a WTT Youth Contender in 2022 which is seen as providing a springboard for the 2024 Championships.

Special attention was paid on the growth of WTT as the commercial arm of the ITTF Group and how the sport has innovated the way it is presented as it continues its aim of drawing elite athletes to the circuit.

"As will be reported in the finances, 2022 will be a record in terms of revenues for the ITTF Group,” said ITTF Group chief executive Steve Dainton. 

"This is the result of bold reforms, harmonious leadership and full teamwork between the elected officials and professional staff. 

"Our previous record was in 2019 with 23 million in revenues and a full calendar of events.  

"This year, we will record revenues of almost 35 million! 

"This growth is extraordinary and massive – especially 2022 was still a difficult year. 

"Table Tennis is on the right way for growth, and we cannot wait for the year 2023."

The Summit began today and featured a welcome session before a two-hour event focused on growing the table tennis industry occupied the programme.

"I could not be more thankful for our Jordanian hosts stepping up and ensuring such a wonderful first-ever ITTF Summit is happening," said ITTF President Petra Sörling.

"When I was elected to my position, I envisioned events like this bringing together such a wide variety of stakeholders to challenge each other and think through new solutions to grow the sport we love.

"Seeing you all for the first time in two years will be a pleasure, and not something I take likely as your President."

A full day's schedule is planned for tomorrow at the Summit with sessions on "becoming a leading international federation", "the sport of table tennis in 50 years", "sustainability, the only way forward", "events for all", and "home of table tennis".
