The FVLA held an educational webinar on the Americas ©FISU

The Americas was the latest focus of an International University Sports Federation (FISU) Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) and student ambassadors webinar in the series that aims to educate participants on culture, history, people and sport around the world.

FISU America President Alim Maluf Neto began proceedings before handing over to Anderson Taylor who spoke about his country Costa Rica.

Taylor highlighted the importance and range of biodiversity that exists in this country of more than five million people, that has seven provinces and is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea.

Mia Landry then conducted a presentation about the most northerly country in the Americas, Canada.

She focused on the 10 provinces and three territories while also discussing Canada's sporting culture, including its professional team across ice hockey, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and lacrosse.

Talks on Chile, Brazil, and Venezuela were also given.

Taylor also spoke about the FISU World Forum taking place in Cartago in Costa Rica from December 5 to 9 at which many FISU student ambassadors are expected to be participating.

The theme of the World Forum Forum is "university sport as a driver for sustainable development" with sub-themes including health and well-being, education, gender equality, and how to reduce inequality.

The last cultural webinar is scheduled to take place in March 2023 with a focus on the countries of Oceania.
