Brazil's Filipe Toledo and American Caroline Marks prevailed at the seventh leg of the World Surf League season in El Salvador.

Reigning overall champion Toledo clinched his second victory of the season at Surf City after his earlier triumph at the Hurley Pro Sunset Beach in Hawaii.

In a re-match of the El Salvador final last year, Toledo reversed the result as he was scored 17.33 points.

He earned a superb score of 9.00 points and then added 8.33 to triumph after the United States' Griffin Colapinto had led for most of the final.

The American ended on 12.10 points.

"That feeling of surfing a good wave and the feeling of getting a big score, there's nothing like it," said Toledo, who said he was competing with an injury.

"I was just super focused.

"I was concentrating on what I was doing and what I wanted to do.

"I woke up yesterday and my back was feeling kind of weird.

"I tried to surf and it was bothering me, so I took a break in the afternoon yesterday.

"This morning I woke up even worse, I could barely walk."

Toledo has moved up to second in the overall standings with four legs of the season to go, sitting behind Colapinto.

In the women's event Marks claimed her first victory since 2021 after defeating Tyler Wright of Australia in the final.

She scored 11.60 to win after overcoming Hawaii's Olympic gold medallist Carissa Moore in the semi-finals.

Wright ended on 8.47 as Marks bagged a victory after two runners-up finishes this season.

"I've been super inspired by the younger girls and all the new energy on tour," said Marks.

"It's been really cool.

"I haven't won since 2021, so I'm just super stoked.

"This is the best feeling ever."

Marks has moved up to third in the rankings, behind leader Moore and Wright.

The Vivo Rio Pro is the next leg of the season in Brazil, between June 23 and July 1.
