Representatives of the Uzbekistan and Qatar National Olympic Committees (NOCs) held talks on increasing sporting links between the two countries.

During a visit to Uzbekistan, Qatar NOC vice-president Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari met his Uzbekistan NOC counterpart Otabek Umarov as well as Minister of Youth Policy and Sports Adham Ikramov.

Al Kuwari then visited the Uzbekistan NOC’s headquarters in Tashkent where he met the NOC’s secretary general Oybek Kasimov.

Topics covered during the meetings included strengthening sporting links between the nations, improving the relationship between the two NOCs and Uzbekistan’s preparations to host the 2025 Asian Youth Games, due to be held in Tashkent.

Also discussed by the two NOCs were organising more sports training camps between the national teams of both countries, building modern sports facilities and exchanging sporting experiences.

Looking forward to the 2025 Asian Youth Games, Umarov suggested the country could learn from Qatar’s hosting of international events, such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup, while Al Kuwari said he believed Qatar could learn from Uzbekistan’s experience in the field of martial arts.
