Bahrain went undefeated to become the first International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Paris 2024 Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament champion in the Asian competition in Syria.

The world number 84 ranked men's side won all five of their matches to progress to the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments where they will play for a place at next year's Games.

The three-pronged attack of Mustafa Rashed, Dwayne Chism, and Muzamil Ameer Hamooda proved pivotal for the Bahraini triumph in Damascus.

Saudi Arabia finished second with the only other positive record, with three wins and two losses, while India, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and the host nation made up the rest of the standings.

Bahrain completed the clean sweep with a 79-66 victory over India.

Hamooda led the offense with 24 points, eight rebounds while Chism only managed nine points but racked up 11 rebounds and four steals.

Rashed was voted as the tournament's most valuable player by the public in front of Indonesia's Marques Bolden, who finished as the highest scorer with 23.4 average points, and Nadim Issa of Syria.

Chinese Taipei were supposed to be playing at the tournament but pulled out late on due to security concerns.

The Chinese Taipei Basketball Association stated that the ongoing Syrian civil war and the fact that the team would only be able to enter from neighbouring countries and not by plane meant they would not attend.

The Asian tournament is the first Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament to conclude before the others in Nigeria, Argentina, Poland and Estonia finish on Sunday (August 20).
