Former world champion Sarah Pavan of Canada and partner Molly McBain qualified for the round of 32 at the 2023 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Championships in Tlaxcala.

They beat Karelys Simisterra and Ariana Vilela of Ecuador 21-13, 21-10 in the lucky loser round as group stages came to a close in Mexico.

The duo will be up against Pool B toppers Taryn Kloth and Kristen Nuss of the United States next.

"It took us until the first technical timeout to understand how the match was going to go," Pavan said.

"From that point forward, we had a very good rhythm and we were digging a lot more balls, so it was just about remaining steady.

"To beat that team and to win that game efficiently is important to prepare for tomorrow."

Joining them in the next stage are Ronja and Dorina Klinger of Austria.

They ensured that the hosts will have no representation moving forward, defeating Abril Flores and Atenas Gutierrez 21-18, 19-21, 15-10.

The Finnish pair of Taru Lathi and Niina Ahtiainen sealed their sport by getting the better of Paraguayans Erika Bobadilla and Michelle Valiente 18-21, 21-17, 15-9.
