The Global Esports Federation (GEF) has announced that the Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games will involve the titles Dota 2, eFootball 2023, PUBG Mobile, and Street Fighter 6.

The third GEF flagship event, which is being hosted by the Saudi Esports Federation, will take place from December 12 to 17, will feature more than 950 competitors from more than 100 nations.

"We are thrilled to bring the Global Esports Games to Riyad," said Chris Chan, the GEF President.

"Together with the Saudi Esports Federation, we reaffirm our commitment to advancing esports on a global scale.

"#GEG23 is more than just a tournament; it’s a celebration of talent, innovation and the power of esports to unite people from diverse backgrounds – and it is our flagship global event."

Paul J. Foster, the GEF chief executive, added: "As we prepare to showcase the incredible talent and innovation at the heart of #GEG23 we are always looking to push the boundaries of esports excellence for performance to shine."

HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan Al Saud, President of SEF, commented:

"Hosting the Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games marks a significant milestone in the development of the competition.

"Riyadh once again this year will shine as a global esports hub, welcoming participants and fans from across the world to experience the energy, excitement, and culture that Saudi Arabia has to offer."

In addition to the main esports competitions, Riyadh will host GEFcon, the Global Esports Federation's global convention.

Simultaneously, GEFestival, a celebration of esports, entertainment and youth culture, will run in parallel with the #GEF23 finals.

Saudi Arabia is also set to host the 2024 International Esports Federation (IESF) World Esports Championships.

The Middle Eastern nation is seeking to become a global force in the esports industry, with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman launching a national gaming and esports strategy to create 39,000 jobs and boost the country’s gross domestic product by $13.3 billion (£10.6 billion/€12.3 billion) by 2030.
