"We support peace and reconciliation.

"In this sense, IWGA oppose all those who disregard this rule for a better coexistence."

In response to the message the Federation of Non-Olympic Sport in Israel (Ayelet) wrote: "The Ayelet Sport Federation and all our Israeli athletes would like to convey our sincere appreciation to the IWGA for their unwavering support and their condemnation of the barbaric atrocities carried out by Hamas on innocent children, women and men on October 7 2023.

"This world has no place for barbaric, inhumane acts of terrorism.

"We all hope and pray for peace and reconciliation in our region and in the whole world, a world where the spirit and values of sport will thrive not only on the playing fields, but in all facets of our daily lives."

The latest reports are that more than 3,700 people have died in Gaza since the outbreak of the conflict.
