Emerging victorious in the past three editions, Japan appear to be on course for a fourth successive men’s team kata crown.

Ryuji Moto, Kazumasa and Koji Arimoto were head and shoulders above the rest, scoring 42.9 points to top the second-round pool.

They are set to meet the Turkish team of Emre Vefa Göktaş, Enes Özdemir and Ali Sofuoğlu who scored 41.8.

The bronze-medal matches will see Italy meet France and Spain take on Kuwait.

Japan also proved too strong in the women’s team kata competition as Saori Ishibashi, Chiho Mizukami and Sae Taira starred on the tatami.

Ishibashi, Mizukami and Taira produced a stunning score of 43.3 as Japan look poised to win their eighth title in the past 11 editions of the World Championships.

Italy will make their first appearance in the final since 2012 after Terryana D'Onofrio, Michela Rizzo and Elena Roversi totalled 42.9.

In the bronze-medal matches, Spain will meet Morocco and Turkey will face Egypt.

Kata also took centre stage in the evening session as the finalists in eight categories of the Para karate competition were determined.

Egypt are guaranteed gold in the women's intellectually impaired K22 after Nadin Youssef and Salma Alaaeldin Ebrahim reached the final.

It will be difficult to separate the two Egyptians as they both scored 38.7 to top their respective groups.

Germany's Albert Singer has sealed his place in the men's intellectually impaired K21 final where he will meet Spain's Carlos Huertas Ruiz.

Singer scored 39.4 to come out on top in pool one but will face a tough challenge against Ruiz in the final with the Spaniard scoring 40.1.

Hungary will have two athletes in the bronze-medal matches with Csatari Janos facing Portugal's Antonio Pereira and Laszlo Fekete taking on Egypt's Moustafa Hassan.

The hosts also have a shot at gold with Olivia Kakosy scoring 39.9 to progress to the women’s intellectually impaired K21 final where she will meet Spain's Lucía Sánchez Rosado who notched 40.4.

Spain's Isabel Fernandez stole the show in the second round of the women's wheelchair user K30 competition.

Fernandez pulled off a superb display to register 41.7 to top pool one and send her into the final where she will meet Turkey's Nesrin Cavadzade.

The Turkish athlete notched 39.3 to pip Ukrainian Knarik Airapetian to top spot in pool two.

Spain's Lucía Sánchez Rosado has topped pool one with a score of 40.4.

Hungary's Olivia Kakosy will meet the Spaniard in the final after sealing first place in pool two with 39.9.

Romania's Alexe Dorin got the better of Japan's Toshihiro Imai to take his place in the final of the men's blind and visually impaired K10 competition.

Imai appeared to have done enough with a score of 40.3 only for Dorin to better that with 41.3.

The Romanian will now face Mexico's José Roberto González Carreón in the final.

The Mexican came out on top in the other pool with a score of 41.1.

Czech Republic's Veronika Kamenska and Azerbaijan's Emiliya Mitlinova will battle it out for the women's blind and visually impaired K10 title.

Kamenska booked her place in the final with a score of 39.6 in group two, while Mitlinova also produced a superb performance, scoring 40.5 for top spot in group one.

Italy's Valerio di Cocco held on to advance to the men's wheelchair user K30 final after registering 40.2.

Egypt's Abdelaziz Abouelnaga remains the man to beat having accumulated 43.2 to top his group.

There was also delight for Egypt in the men's intellectually impaired K22 event as the Egyptian top scored with 42.0.

He will now fight for gold against Italy's Mattia Allesina who totalled 38.5.
