The city of La Paz, capital of the department of the same name in Bolivia, hosted a sambo demonstration on 26 January. The event was organised in honour of the official recognition of SAMBO as a sport that is developing in La Paz.

The department is made up of 87 municipalities with a population of around 3 million people. During the demonstrations, which were attended by more than 120 guests, athletes demonstrated techniques from various SAMBO disciplines, and the organisers explained the principles and rules of this martial art.

"This event was a great celebration of the sport, and also helped to draw special attention to the need to support and develop SAMBO in our department," said Marco Antonio Catunta Kantuta, president of the La Paz Regional SAMBO Association. Bolivia had only two sambists at the 2023 SAMBO Pan American Championships. Alberto Poveda Torrez competed in the Men's SAMBO and Combat SAMBO 71 kg weight categories and finished 5th in second one. Yerko Fidel Castro Fernandez took part in the Men's SAMBO 79 kg category and lost in the first round to Venezuela's Paul Amaya.
