Bandy: Key decisions ahead of new FIB Executive Committee election. FIB

On Friday 7 June, the Executive Committee of the Federation of International Bandy (FIB) or now World Bandy held its last meeting before the 2024 FIB Congress in Stockholm, Sweden.

Although it was the last meeting before a new Executive Committee will be elected at the FIB Congress, they made several important decisions. Among them was the appointment of the FIB Athletes Committee, which will be ratified by the FIB Congress today, Saturday 8 June.

The Executive Committee (EC) also approved the statutes of the FIB Hall of Fame and appointed Magnus Sköld as Chair of the Board of Trustees. One of the main objectives of the EC was to harmonise the event related documents for the different types of FIB events in order to ensure a level playing field for all hosts.

Stein Pedersen, FIB President, summed up the meeting and the term of the EC. "Today we had a very fruitful Executive Committee meeting here in Stockholm, concluding our four year term. Even today we have taken very important decisions such as the creation of the FIB Hall of Fame and the approval of the members of the FIB Athletes' Committee, thus paving the way for direct athlete representation in the EC," he said.

"We are very happy with what the EC has achieved in a short period of time, such as the return to competition despite difficult times, the modernisation of the federation, the implementation of governance reforms, the inclusion of women and athletes in the governing bodies and the completion of the WADA Code compliance procedures."

"With these improvements, I am pleased to conclude my term of office and leave a legacy of which we can all be proud. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of my colleagues on the Executive Committee for their valuable contributions during our term of office," added Stein Pedersen.

The Federation of International Bandy, founded on 12 February 1955, is the international governing body for the sport of bandy, including the variant known as rink bandy. It is based in the municipality of Simrishamn, Sweden.
