Paige_Railey_US_sailing_11-08-11August 11 - The US Sailing team's preparations for London 2012 are on track, according to the chairman of the US Olympic Sailing Committee (USOSC).

The team is currently at Weymouth for the test event for next year's Olympic Games, with a number of athletes in line for medals, including Paige Railey (pictured), Zach Railey, Erin Maxwell and Isabelle Kinsolving Farrar.

Sally Barkow, Alana O'Reilly and Elizabeth Kratzig Burnham claimed bronze with a petit-final win in the women's match racing earlier in the week.

Paige Railey has taken two wins in recent days to put her just behind Evi van Acker of Belgium in second place in the Laser Radial class and in the hunt for glory in the medal race taking place today.

"I'm so excited right now I can't even speak," she said.

"Weymouth is a really difficult place to sail, I'm really pumped right now."

Maxwell and Kinsolving Farrar will both take spots in the women's 470 medal race, also taking place today.

Railey is on course for Saturday's Finn medal race and is currently in ninth place in the following an impressive performance in difficult conditions on Wednesday (August 9), though he was disappointed with his overall display.

"It's disappointing to have this big a breeze come in during a regatta," he said.

"Given the lack of speed I had in the upwinds, it is clear I don't weigh enough.

"I made a conscious effort to lose weight properly and take off a lot of body fat.

"Now, instead of packing on the fat, I am going to put the weight on correctly for the Games."

Dean Brenner, the chairman of USOSC, is pleased with the overall performance of his squad so far and said: "This test event is the next step on our way to 2012, and it's an important step.

"What we care most about is 'how many events are we clearly in the hunt for?'

"And we feel like we are on pace to reach our goals next year."
