victoria park_live_site_23-11-11November 24 - It has been officially confirmed that Hyde Park, Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square, three of central London's most iconic open-air locations, will be transformed into live sites during the Olympics and Paralympics next year to allow the public to join in and celebrate the excitement of London 2012 for free.

The unique project, titled London Live, will see giant screens set up for crowds to watch the action from the Olympics and Paralympics as it happens.

Each of the three locations will also provide a variety of entertainment and attractions, including live music, outdoor arts and performance, plus opportunities to try out different sports.

London Live is the result of a collaboration between Mayor of London Boris Johnson, the Royal Parks and the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, while it will be run by international event promoters Live Nation – the organisation behind some of the biggest ever concerts in the UK including Live 8 and Concert for Diana.

"With the eyes of the world on London for the 2012 Games, we are creating a jam-packed programme of exciting events that will show the city at its very best and ensure as many people as possible across the capital feel a part of the celebrations," said the Mayor of London.

"With its unbeatable locations, London Live will be a thrilling highlight in a summer of highlights, allowing even more people to watch awe inspiring sporting heroes in high definition action for free, and other fantastic attractions for Londoners and visitors alike."

Full details of London Live will be announced shortly but the key dates have already been revealed.

London Live at Hyde Park and Victoria Park will take place from July 27 to August 12 during the Olympics, while London Live at Trafalgar Square will commence from August 29 to September 9 during the Paralympics.

London Live Hyde Park will see the UK's largest screen put up to show live BBC coverage of the Olympics and it will be free to access between July 28 and August 11.

The Opening Ceremony on July 27 and the Closing Ceremony on August 12 will be the only two day that the Park is commercially ticketed.

London Live Victoria Park will provide a more intimate Olympic viewing experience with a 'sports cafe' style approach that will see two giant screens and a series of smaller screens showing BBC live coverage.

There will also be an emphasis on sports participation with a range of "have a go" sessions at the Victoria Park Sports Courts, while a series of evening concerts and cultural entertainment will enliven the site daily.

Meanwhile during the Paralympics, London Live Trafalgar Square will feature a giant screen showing live coverage courtesy of Channel 4, while there will also be sporting activity, cultural entertainment and evening concerts.

"We have a great pedigree of delivering fantastic open air events in Hyde Park and are excited to be working on delivering the same quality events in Victoria Park and Trafalgar Square for Londoners and visitors to the capital for the London 2012 Games," said Live Nation chief operating officer John Probyn.

"Our aim is to deliver one of London's biggest Olympic celebrations."

The public will have the option of walking in on the day but to guarantee entry, tickets can be booked online before 2pm each day for a transaction fee of £3.50 ($5.44/€4) per booking, with booking details to be announced next year.
