Jibril Rajoub, the president of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, is calling for Israel to be banned from the 2024 Paris Olympics over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Rajoub highlighted to Deutsche Welle examples of how he said Israel had broken the Olympic Charter: the set of rules governing the Olympic Games.

Head of the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Jibril Rajoub, said Wednesday he hoped the Paris Olympic Games would bring more attention to the war in Gaza and the "Israeli occupation of the West Bank," Times of Israel reported last week. So far the country is set to participate in the Games with one athlete confirmed in taekwondo while other hopefuls are training to meet the International Olympic Committee standards to have priority for wildcards. Rajoub said in a press conference earlier this month that Palestine will have a minimum of 6-8 (athletes), three of which are likely to come from Gaza. 

Despite security threats and concerns over provocations, Israel is working to ensure that the athletes competing at the games in Paris can keep their focus entirely on sport, The Times of Israel reported last week.

Tariq Abdul-Wahad calls for more athletes to speak up against the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, saying that being represented in the Games is a privilege and that the country has long since lost this right, Anadolu reported this week.

Malaysia has extended a ban on Israeli athletes taking part at this year’s World Para Swimming Championships in Sarawak to include all other sporting events.
