Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is leading a delegation of officials from South East Queensland (SEQ) on a visit to Los Angeles and Vancouver to assist with its preparation for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

A delegation from the SEQ Council of Mayors, a company consisting of Mayors of 11 member Councils serving as directors, has travelled to North America for 11 days to learn from other cities' experience of staging the Games, particularly in the fields of transport, waste and population.

Los Angeles in the United States held the Summer Olympics in 1932 and 1984, and is preparing to host the 2028 edition.

Vancouver in Canada staged the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Schrinner and other Mayors are set to meet new Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, senior transport officials from Metro Vancouver and Wisk Aero chief executive Brian Yutko.

The SEQ Council of Mayors signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Wisk Aero last year which could facilitate self-flying electric air taxis in Brisbane for the 2032 Games.

The Mayors intend to visit manufacturing and test facilities of Wisk, and tour the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Department of Regional Planning.

They also plan to discuss population growth and housing affordability with officials in Vancouver.

Schrinner expressed hope that Brisbane can learn from Los Angeles and Vancouver's experience.

"Learning how other host cities are using their Games to deliver long-term advantages for their residents is an important step on the runway to Brisbane 2032," he said, as reported by the Brisbane Times.

"We also want to ensure the legacy continues for many years after the event."

Brisbane is set to become the third Australian city to host the Olympic Games in 2032 and the second to stage the Paralympics, after it became the first city to be awarded the multi-sport event under the International Olympic Committee's new bidding process in 2021.

There are some funding issues to be resolved for Brisbane 2032, with talks ongoing between the Queensland and Australian Governments after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese refused to commit to the 50-50 split promised by his predecessor Scott Morrison.
