China bagged two athletics gold medals as competitions began at the International School Sport Federation (ISF) U15 Gymnasiade 2023 here.

The first of those came in the girls' shot put thanks to Yan Ziyi, whose effort of 16.21 metres helped her clinch the title.

Marina Hadjicosta of Cyprus managed silver with an effort of 16.09m while Yan's compatriot Chen Xinyao grabbed the final podium spot after throwing 15.99m.

With an impressive time of 11.56sec, Yujie Chen ensured the second Chinese title in the girls' 100m final as Thea Parnis Coleiro of Malta finished second.

Coleiro got silver after clocking 12.16 and Brazilian Beatriz Camargo Monteiro Silva settled for bronze in 12.34.

It was a close contest in the boys' 100m final as Lin Chia-Le Chinese Taipei denied China another gold by 0.04.

Lin got gold in 10.77, followed by silver medallist Shijie Sun of China with a timing of 10.81.

Lambros Christofides bagged the bronze medal for Cyprus in 11.01.

Brazil and Argentina triumphed in the boys' high jump and discus throw competitions, respectively.

Paulo Henrique Marques Teles made the hosts proud as he cleared 1.90 metres forth high jump title.

With an effort of 1.87m, Kaspar Isand of Estonia got silver and bronze went to another Chinese in Wei Hong, who managed 1.84.

Lucas Demian Miño was the star in discus after throwing 58.46 metres for the gold medal.

Lu Yu Xiang of China and Gabriel Benicios Tenorio Leite of Brazil bagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Lu threw 56.36m while Tenorio Leite settled for the las podium spot with 54.62m.

Nevia Fotak got a first-place finish for Europe as the Croatian jumped 5.65 metres in the girls' long jump.

Brazilian Laura Fernanda Moraes Meira was the next best athlete, registering 5.57m for silver before China got another podium finish when Hou Mingxi finished with 5.50m.

By clocking 2min, 0.12sec, Portugal hero Afonso Gomes got the boys' 800m title.

Zifan Xiao, clocking 2min 0.22sec got silver while Moroccan Kamal Talib finished third in 2min 00.46sec.

Archery, badminton, 33x3 basketball, boxing, chess, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, Para swimming and table tennis tournaments got underway today.
