Shooting and Para shooting are due to be staged in the city 270 kilometres south of Paris, shifting from initial plans to redevelop a 13-hectare wasteland which was previously a hydrocarbon storage unit for the armed forces at La Courneuve due to the venue being too small and a regeneration too costly.

Estanguet visited the CNTS, which is set to be the venue for the first gold medal event at next year's Olympics on July 27, to examine the facilities.

He branded the facility as "magnificent, very impressive", and insisted "the first criterion that counts for athletes is to know that they will have suitable performance conditions and here we have this guarantee", as reported by France Bleu.

French Shooting Sports Federation President Michel Baczyk said "a lot of work has already been done", but there is still more to do to ensure infrastructure is adapted for people with disabilities and to improve accommodation planned in Châteauroux.

The Blaise Pascal high school and International Higher Education Centre are set to be used to house athletes in Châteauroux.

Last year, it emerged plans had been scrapped to build a complex at the CNTS.

Shooting at the Paris 2024 Olympics is scheduled for July 27 to August 5 next year, followed by Para shooting at the Paralympics from August 30 to September 5.
