Umi Ito in the 50 kilograms, Mako Oono at 53kg, Umi Imai in 55kg, Sara Natami at 57kg, and Yuzuka Inagaki at 62kg were the Japanese champions.

Audrey Jimenez of the United States bowed out against Ito in the 50kg final while Indian Neha Sharma, competing under the United World Wrestling (UWW) flag, lost the 55kg final to Imai.

On Friday (October 27), Oono started the proceedings, crushing senior world bronze medallist Mariana Dragutan 10-0.  

The one-sided final means Oono now has four international titles.

Asian champion Natami was made to work hard against Azeerbaijani European silver medallist Zhala Aliyeva.

She defeated Aliyeva 18-8 for the 57kg title while Inagaki made short work of Ukrainian Iryna Bondar, pinning her with ease for her U23 world gold, four years after her first one.

Muhammet Bakir was the hero for Turkey as they claimed the Greco-Roman crown with 121 points overall.

Bakir got rid of returning silver medallist Mykhailo Vyshnyvetskyi of Ukraine in the 130kg.

The rest of Turkey's points for the team title came from three silvers, courtesy of Mustafa Safa Yıldırım in the 67kg, Alperen Berber in 82kg and Mustafa Olgun in the 97kg.

Alexandrin Guţu of Moldova, who won the U17 World Championships and the Youth Olympic Games title in 2018, ended a drought by winning the 77kg gold defeating Khasay Hasanli of Azerbaijan 3-1.

Kazakhstan also had a good outing in the Greco-Roman, with Sultan Assetuly becoming the first wrestler from his country to win the U23 World Championships.

The former Asian champion triumphed 2-1 against Turkey's Yıldırım.

Four of United States' five golds came in the men's freestyle, thanks to Keegan O'Toole in the 74kg, Aaron Brooks in the 86kg, Isaac Trumble at 97kg and Wyatt Hendrickson in the 125kg.

O'Toole defeated neutral athlete Imam Ganishov 6-1 to win to add to his junior world title from 2021.

The win will be special for the two-time National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I champion and other American winners who will earn a spot at the Olympic trials for Paris 2024.

Brooks, a cadet world champion from 2017 and a three-time NCAA god medallist, won against Tatsuya Shirai of Japan 10-0.

Trumble was named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week after his triumph over Radu Lefter of Moldova.

In what was his first age-group World Championships, Trumble dominated Lefter 12-2.

Finally, Hendrickson got the better of Turkish Adil Misirci 13-3.
