China have claimed gold and silver in the women's 50 metre three position rifle at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships here.

The 19-year-old Zhang Qiongyue took gold with a score of 465.3 points to also claim an Olympic quota place.

Her compatriot Han Jiayu claimed silver with 463.5 and bronze went to Sagen Maddalena of the United States with 451.9 points.

Zhang had led after the kneeling position but slipped down into third after the prone position, before recovering in the third standing phase to take gold.

"I am very very  happy to get the medal, we are doing well here because we all fight together as a team," Zhang said.

Zhang is now set to compete in the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

There were also quote places for India's Sit Kaur Samra who finished fifth, Lisa Mueller of Germany who finished ninth and Yesugen Onyubat of Mongolia who was 11th overall.

In the team event, Maddalena, Mary Tucker and Sarah Beard won gold for the United States with a score of 1774. 

Silver went to Zhang Qiongyue, Xia Siyu and Han Jiayu of China with 1773.

Jeanette Duestad, Jenny Stene and Mari Lovseth of Norway took bronze with a score of 1767.
